So you’re in charge of the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt? Here are some easy, creative ideas for making it the best egg hunt around!
Be creative! Have your kids help make invitations shaped like bunny ears, using white cardboard, pink paper (printed with info) for the centers, and white cotton balls around the edges. An egg-shaped invitation would be cute, too. No time? Order cute Easter invites online.
Once you know the number of kids coming, you can pick a number of eggs each child will be ‘allowed’ to find. If you have 10 kids coming, you might want to let them each find 15 or 20 eggs, but if you have a larger crowd -- 20 or more kids -- you might want to stick with 10 eggs apiece. Giving kids a limit on the number they can find helps keep it ‘fair’ for smaller kids. Older kids should be encouraged to let younger kids find ‘easier’ eggs. Another idea if you’re super organized and have a lot of kids is to color-code eggs- certain age group kids can find certain colors. (Little kids only get the yellow eggs! etc)
What kinds of things can you use to fill the eggs? Chocolate foil eggs in different candy varieties are of course a must, but get expensive when filling many eggs. Make sure to have lots of bags of jellybeans and other more inexpensive unwrapped candy that fill lots of eggs. Other creative things to stuff eggs: Easter stickers, loose change (yes! now’s the time to get rid of all your dimes nickels and pennies!) and cute tiny treasures from Oriental Trading work really well for filling lots of eggs. You can even buy them already filled!
If each child doesn’t already have an Easter basket, you’ll need to give her something in which to collect her Easter goodies. Clear plastic treat bags work well, or you could simply set up a brown paper bag-decorating area with stickers, stamps, markers, etc and Easter grass…. if you don’t mind vacuuming it up for the next few weeks! Kids should write their names on their bags so you can tell them apart later.
Bring the camera -- you won't want to miss the adorable pictures of smiling little kids in cute spring outfits in the green grass!! Have fun! You’re never too old for an Easter egg hunt.
