Here are some neat activities to help your child celebrate Father's Day. Included is a homemade card, crafts, and recipes that will make him feel like a king for the day.

Father's Day is on June 17, 2007 this year! Help your child make a special Father's Day memory with the activities below.

"Best Daddy" T-Shirt Craft

Materials:

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • T-shirt (big enough to fit dad)
  • Iron
  • Sticky tape
  • Stencil paint
  • Brush

Directions:

  1. Make a stencil by cutting out a design on paper.
  2. Iron the T-shirt flat. Place a piece of paper inside the T-shirt (to protect the back). Position the stencil on the front of the T-shirt and tape it down. Paint on the stencil paint gently with short dabs to get an even flow of color.
  3. Remove the stencil when the paint is dry. Iron to set in the paint, using a low setting.

Tip: Test the stencil out on a spare piece of fabric before using the actual T-shirt.

King for a Day Crown

Materials:

  • Patterned tissue paper
  • Scissors
  • Sharpie marker
  • Sticky tape
  • Gold glitter glue

Directions:

  1. Cut a length of patterned tissue paper long enough to go around your father's head (ask mom to help you with that). Fold it in quarters. Mark a zigzag along the top with a Sharpie marker and cut it out.
  2. Tape the sides of the crown together.
  3. Apply gold glitter glue randomly over the surface of the hat in thin layers. Allow the glue to dry before giving the hat to your dad.

Wacky Waffle Stacks

Ingredients:

  • 3 round frozen toaster waffles
  • 1/4 cup plain or strawberry-flavored cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons strawberry preserves or fruit spread
  • 1 medium banana, sliced, or 6 strawberries, sliced
  • 4 whole strawberries

Directions:

  1. Toast waffles according to package directions.
  2. Place one waffle on a plate. Spread with 2 tablespoons cream cheese and half the preserves. Arrange half the sliced fruit on top. Top with another waffle. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients. Top with remaining waffle.
  3. Cut waffle stack into quarters. Garnish each quarter with a whole strawberry. Serve immediately.

Ice Cream Delight Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 Angel food bundt cake
  • 1/2 gallon strawberry ice cream
  • 1 cup of strawberries
  • Whipped cream

Directions:

  1. Place the angel food cake on a flat surface (a chilled plate works best). Using an icing knife, spread a thick layer of ice cream over the whole cake, including the sides. Before the ice cream melts, stick half of the strawberry pieces into the ice cream.
  2. Next arrange strawberries with a fun design such as the kid's birthday or age. Freeze until ice cream hardens slightly.
  3. Put a swirl of whipped cream on top after you take it out of the freezer. Serve immediately.
