Father's Day Family Fun

Delight Dad with Exciting Parent-Child Activities

May 4, 2009 Wei Yin Wong

Celebrate Father's Day by treating the family to fun backyard fun games, outdoor activities, swimming with sea creatures, horse riding and quad biking.

Father’s Day is a celebration for all in the family. So instead of the usual boxed gifts for Dad, why not present the whole family with some fun activities over the Father’s Day weekend? It’s a great way to spend quality time and for Dad to have a well-deserved break from work.

Here are some family fun ideas to celebrate Father’s Day.

Backyard Fun with Dad

If the weather is good, have a picnic or barbeque in the backyard. Include some parent-child activities and games too. A mini Olympics, treasure hunt, obstacle race or water activities will be great fun for everyone. At night, if the sky is clear, Dad and the kids can have a stargazing party too. Pitch a tent and have a sleepover if everyone is up for it.

Outdoor Activities with Dad

If the backyard isn’t big enough, move the activities elsewhere – the neighborhood park, the beach or bicycle trails. Families with older children also can try bush walking, hiking trails, orienteering, fishing or camping during Father’s Day weekend. These activities are fun, provide opportunities to learn about nature and help everyone in the family to exercise!

Swimming with Sea Creatures

Plan a trip that will allow the family opportunities not just to watch sea creatures but to swim alongside them as well. Check out websites offering unique experiences to see what’s available. Many unique experiences are catered to families with children so that they can swim with sea creatures such as dolphins, seals and even tuna!

Horse Riding with Dad

Learn to ride like a cowboy. If money and time are a concern, just opt for a one-hour private horse riding lesson for the family. The idea is to have fun, pick up some very basic horse riding skills and gain confidence on a horse back. Horse riding is a great family activity because horses are creatures that appeal to many kids.

Quad Biking with Dad

Kids aged 12 and above will probably enjoy a quad biking trip with Dad. The kids will feel very grown up riding alongside Dad, while Dad can certainly appreciate being the leader of the gang! All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) quad bikes are fully automatic, so there is no need to worry about complicated motorcycle-style gear changes. Book a quad biking trip to feel the adrenalin rush while cruising along forest and adventure trails.

Jungle Swinging with Dad

If Dad loves speed, he can enjoy something really fast but safe with the kids too. The jungle swing is one such activity. It’s for anyone aged 10 and above. Here’s what to expect – hang high in a tree and get ready to soar at speeds of up to 100 kmh. Stainless steel cables, hang-gliding harnesses and protective gear will ensure swingers have a blast being propelled to 40m above the forest canopy only to experience a sharp but controlled fall when the release cable is pulled. Exhilarating! Get ready to scream and laugh along the way.

Celebrate this Father’s Day with exciting parent-child activities. Backyard and outdoor activities with Dad are cheap and fun. Those who wish for a bit of adventure can also plan family fun trips to go swimming with sea creatures, horse riding, quad biking or jungle swinging with Dad.
