Kids will have a blast celebrating July Fourth with red, white and blue makeovers and a spectacular holiday parade that makes its way through the neighborhood!

Kick off the festivities this Fourth of July with all-American hair and makeup, and a ride through the neighborhood on a specially decorated bike, scooter or other ride-on. Make the holiday even more fun by showing off a patriotic makeover during the July Fourth parade.

July Fourth-Themed Makeovers

Getting all decked out for the holiday is a must. It's a great way to display patriotism on America's birthday, and a fun way for kids to show their holiday spirit.

Supplies Needed:

  • Spray-on temporary hair color in red and blue
  • Patriotic-themed temporary tattoos
  • Red, white and blue nail polish

Set up a separate station for each activity. Each station should be manned by an adult who will be performing the makeover. Setting up the stations outdoors is preferable. Have kids travel from station to station to receive their Fourth of July makeover. At the hair station spray the kids' hair with red and blue stripes. Keep in mind that sufficient ventilation is important at this station. At the tattoo station allow kids to choose a few tattoos and the spots on their body that they'd like to apply them. Help the kids apply tattoos to hands, cheeks, etc. Girls will enjoy the nail polish station. Paint finger and toe nails, alternating red, white and blue.

Neighborhood Fourth of July Parade

Hip Hip Parade! What better way to celebrate America's independence than to gather the neighborhood kids and march around outside to an upbeat medley of patriotic tunes! Adults will definitely want to have their video cameras ready for the spectacular main event.

Supplies Needed:

  • Bicycles and wagons, of course! Scooters or other ride-on toys work well too.
  • Fourth of July-themed craft and party supplies, such as garland, flags, balloons banners, etc. A large selection of red, white and blue-themed decorations can be found online at Oriental Trading.
  • Portable CD player and patriotic music CD

Preparing for a July Fourth parade can be as fun as the parade itself. Parade participants should choose their favorite ride-on "vehicle" and decorate it with the patriotic supplies. Encourage kids to use their imagination and get creative, attaching festive streamers, signs, bells, etc. to bikes or other ride-ons. Sky's the limit!

Once all the "vehicles" have been decorated and are ready to go, have the kids form a line at the start of the parade route. Designate someone to hold the CD player, while it plays patriotic music. This person will lead the parade through the neighborhood. Just make sure to have enough adults on hand to accompany the caravan of kids on their march.

Fourth of July-themed makeovers and a patriotic parade through the neighborhood are certain to make the holiday both festive and fun.
