Canada Day is a great holiday for a family to celebrate together by planning fun-filled activities everyone will enjoy. Spending the day making crafts or going to the beach are all fun ways for a family to be together and not spend much money in the process. Here are some ways to have fun this Canada Day:

Go to the Beach

Enjoy the beach for the day as a family. Take along pails, shovels and other beach toys like a Frisbee, beach balls, etc. Enjoy making sand castles, play Frisbee or volleyball or go looking for shells on the beach.

Go for the Picnic at a Park

Plan a family picnic at a local park. Take along a soccer ball, pail and shovel for the sand box and a large blanket to place under a tree. Pack a lunch of easy to serve foods like sandwiches, cut fruit, muffins, cheese, cookies and juice in spill proof drink containers.

Find Out About Free Activities Around the City

Search through the local paper, listen to the news or call the city's information line to find out about free Canada Day activities. There are many free activities planned every year from outdoor concerts to evening fireworks. By finding about what events are planned for the day, families can pick and choose what they would like to participate in.

Decorate the House

Let the children decorate the house in red and white with streamers and flags. Placing a Happy Birthday banner inside the house or outside is a great way to show younger children that Canada Day is a birthday celebration.

Plan a Canada Day Party

Planning a party does not necessarily need to cost money. By making the party "Pot Luck" where everyone invited brings an item to eat or drink can be a perfect way to keep costs down. Make sure to ask everyone attending to dress in red and white.
