Tis the season to be charitable. Host a holiday party for your kids and their friends this year that focuses on donating gently used toys to children in need.

This time of year most kids’ eyes are aglow with visions of baby dolls and remote control cars. Teach your kids that it is better to give than to receive this holiday season by hosting a Christmas re-gifting party for your kids and their friends. Not only will party guests have a fun and festive time, they’ll learn the value of giving to those less fortunate, and in turn, put a smile on a needful child’s face.

Party Preparation

Prepping for a Christmas regifting party for kids is not much different than organizing any other kids’ party.

  • Most importantly, send out Christmas-themed party invitations, announcing the date, time and location of your holiday affair. Make a note that guests are to bring a wrapped Christmas present to donate to a child in need. The present should be a gently used toy that the child already owns. Donating a toy that previously belonged to the party guest will reinforce the concept of charity. Kids are certain to be touched by sharing one of their own possessions with another child in need.
  • Purchase holiday-themed paper goods. Shopping at your local dollar store or an online discount retailer will help to keep costs down.
  • Plan a festive holiday menu. Christmas cookies and hot chocolate with candy canes for stirrers are sure to please.
  • Decorate with holiday-themed items like Christmas garland, and red and green balloons.
  • Set the mood with your favorite Christmas music.

Time to Party

Once guests arrive to your Christmas regifting party you can choose to just hang out, watch a holiday movie, do a craft project or any other activity of your choosing.

The only rule is to designate a special time for gift giving. Use a giant Christmas stocking or oversized gift bag to collect the presents that you will be donating. Allow each kid to place his/her gift into the receptacle himself/herself. Then, if possible, share with the kids a little bit about whom the gifts will be going to. Guests’ hearts are sure to be warmed by this expression of holiday charity.

Reward the kids with a small token of appreciation, like a candy cane or small treat bag filled with holiday-themed party favors.

The Gift Delivery

If you haven’t already, choose an organization to bring the gifts to. If you don’t have one in mind, local churches and hospitals, community groups and, women and children’s shelters will most likely be able to pass them on or direct you to families in need. Bring your kids, and if possible, a few of the other party guests, along to drop off the gifts.

A Christmas regifting party for kids is a valuable activity to add to your repertoire of holiday traditions year after year. But giving doesn’t have to be reserved just for the holidays. Coats for Kids and Locks of Love are only a couple of the many charities ideal for kids to get involved with.
