Have a howling good time this Halloween by whipping up creepy, bug-filled, ice cubes and hosting a pie eating contest where the secret ingredient is ghoulish gummy worms.

Whether it's a festive Halloween party or just a bug-themed birthday bash on the agenda, these silly, bug-inspired fun and games are just what the doctor ordered.

Bug Trick Ice Cubes

Play a scary Halloween trick on friends and family members. Kids and adults will get a kick out of serving up drinks garnished with a creepy fly or spider. With a few fake bugs, an ice cube tray and some water, it's easy to whip up some chilling trick ice cubes guaranteed to both startle and thrill recipients. Creepy trick ice cubes are a great addition to any Halloween party as well.

Supplies Needed:

  • Ice cube tray
  • 12 fake/toy flies or spiders
  • Water

Directions:

  1. Wash the toy bugs with soap and water.
  2. Put one fake bug in each section of the ice cube tray.
  3. Fill the ice cube tray to the top with water.
  4. Stick the ice cube tray in the freezer until the ice cubes are frozen through.
  5. Put the ice cubes in a friend or family member’s drink for a creepy surprise.
  6. At Halloween parties, fill a punch bowl with the desired beverage and add the trick ice cubes. Party guests will get a kick out seeing “bugs” in the Halloween punch.

If serving the trick ice cubes to young children, it’s best to alert them to the fake toy in their drink to avoid any choking hazards. At parties, always display the creepy cubes in a punch bowl. That way when drinks are served hosts can make sure the ice cube (and the fake toy) won’t end up in anybody’s glass.

Bug Pie Relay

Ready . . . Set . . . Eat! What could be more thrilling than a pie eating contest? A pie eating contest that involves creepy crawlers, of course. Kids and adults will savor these tasty bug pies, whether they're the one scarfing it down or just watching. The bug pie relay is an entertaining addition to any Halloween or bug-themed party.

Supplies Needed:

Directions:

  1. Put a handful of the gummy candies into an empty pie tin.
  2. Fill the pie tin with whipped cream, covering the bugs.
  3. Repeat steps one and two until enough prepared "pies" have been prepared for each participant. (Note: Relay works best with no more than five players at a time. If more than five people want to participate, host the relay in additional waves, as desired.)

How to Play:

  1. Arrange prepared "pies" in a row on the table.
  2. Position each participant in front of a pie.
  3. Instruct players to find as many "bugs" in the pie, using only their mouth, no hands. (Bugs can be spit onto the table next to their pie as participants find them.) The first one to recover all of the candy bugs or the player with the most after three minutes wins.

Kids and adults will enjoy these creepy crawly Halloween activities, which are certain to make any party spooktacular. For even more Halloween fun, check out these other Halloween games and activities.
