If Halloween snuck up once again and a Halloween costume is needed right now, try one of these ten faster-than-a-flying-witch super-simple costume ideas.

A great Halloween costume is as close as the hall closet. Using simple, easy-to-find materials anyone can whip up one of these fast and foolproof Halloween costumes in the time it takes to say "Boo."

Super Fast Halloween Costumes

Swift Street-Performing Mime Halloween Costume – Dress in black and add white dace paint and white gloves.

Expeditious Egg Halloween Costume – Dress in white and attach a large yellow circle (made of fabric or poster board) to the front. (Add horns and a pitchfork to be a "deviled egg.")

Snappy Static Cling Halloween Costume – Dress normally and use safety pins to attach socks, dryer sheets, and washcloths to clothing.

Halloween Costumes From the Closet

In a Jiffy "Incredible Shrinking Man (or Woman)" Halloween Costume – Dress the child in a men's business suit or woman's dress, add make-up for "women" and a fake mustache for "men" and attach a sign which reads: "See The Incredible Shrinking Man (or Woman)!"

Breakneck Speed "Blues Brothers" or "Men in Black" Halloween Costume – Dress the child in a black suit (that one from their first communion or when they were a ring bearer in a wedding, perhaps?), slick back their hair and add dark sunglasses. Add a black derby hat for "Blues Brother."

Fast Fireman Halloween Costume – Dress the child in a yellow rain coat and pants. Wrap black electrical tape twice around each arm and leg to create the black stripes seen on fireman attire. Add black boots or shoes and a dress-up toy fireman hat. Carry a toy firetruck.

Clever and Quick Halloween Costumes

Accelerated Artist Halloween Costume – Dress the child in pants and a t-shirt or unused man's dress shirt that has been splotched with brightly colored paint in several colors. Add a beret or any paint-splotched hat, a cardboard artist pallet and a paintbrush.

Hasty Hobo Halloween Costume – Dress the child in the rattiest, dirtiest clothes that can be found and use eyeliner or brown eye shadow to make "dirt" on the face. Tie up four corners of a bandana or other square cloth to make a "hobo sack," then attach the sack to the end of a long stick.

Speedy Scarecrow Halloween Costume – Dress the child in overalls and a long-sleeved plaid or buffalo checked shirt. Loosely tie some twine or rope around the child's waist, ankles and wrists. Stuff a few small throw pillows or some balled-up plastic bags into the overalls to create a lumpy look. Add a straw hat. Have some straw, hay or long grass poking out of the child's pocket or sleeve. Use make-up or face paint to create a scarecrow face.

Brisk Babysitter Halloween Costume – Dress the child normally and have him or her wear baby dolls in baby carriers or carry baby dolls in car-seat type doll carriers. Attach a sign that says "Babysitter for Hire" to his or her clothing.

Quick Halloween Costumes for Tweens and Teens

For older kids with a funny bone, consider these joke costumes which are all based on puns:

  • Carry a quarter and a hammer to be a "Quarter Pound-r" (cheese optional).
  • Wear all black and attack a letter or a postage stamp to the shirt to become "blackmail."
  • Wear old CD's as a necklace and carry an empty box of matches to be a "CD burner."
  • Dress in a business suit and attach legal documents to the suit with safety pins to become a "lawsuit." Carry around a toy airplane. What are you? An "aircraft carrier."

These costumes can be put together quickly with just a few common household items, so there's no reason why anyone would have to miss out on all the Halloween dress-up fun.
