Decorate the Thanksgiving table with simple homemade turkey napkin holders.
Make turkey inspired napkin holders for the Thanksgiving table. Pine cones, paper, and photographs are simple materials used to create fun, inexpensive, and quick serviette rings for the holiday table. Making napkin holders is a Thanksgiving activity children can be engaged in as parents prepare the festivities for the day.
Pine Cone Turkey Napkin Holders
Materials
empty paper towel roll
pine cone
colorful feathers
googly eyes
Procedures
Cut off a 2" section of the empty paper towel roll. Paper towel roll is the base of the pine cone turkey napkin holder.
Position the pine cone onto the paper towel roll. Hot glue the pine cone to the serviette ring.
Position several colorful feathers behind the pine cone against the ring. Hot glue several feathers to the backside of the pine cone.
Glue googly eyes to the top of the pine cone.
Repeat procedures 1-4 for the remaining turkey serviette rings.
Paper Turkey Napkin Holders
Materials
Assorted colors of construction paper
crayons
Procedures
Roll a brown piece of construction paper vertically. Glue one edge and press against the other edge to retain circular shape.
Cut 6 rings from the rolled construction paper. Place a piece of transparent tape on each ring. Put the rings to the side.
Trace or draw feathers using the assorted construction paper. A child's finger is a great template for turkey feathers. Place cut feathers to the side.
Trace or draw a body of turkey.
Draw 2 eyes on the turkey.
Glue several feathers to the backside of the turkey body.
Glue completed turkey to the construction paper ring.
Repeat procedures 1-7 for the remaining turkey napkin holders.
Photo Turkey Serviette Rings
Materials
brown construction paper

Procedures
Roll a brown piece of construction paper vertically. Glue one edge and press against the other edge to retain circular shape.
Cut 6 rings from the rolled construction paper. Place a piece of transparent tape on each ring. Put the rings to the side.
Locate a photo of a wild turkey or cartoon turkey via the Internet or program such as Corel® (2009)
Print a turkey image.
Glue turkey image to the construction paper ring.
Repeat procedures 1-5 for the remaining turkey napkin holders.
Finish the turkey napkin rings by inserting cloth or paper napkins. Simply roll a paper napkin and place inside the ring. Cloth napkins should be folded into a square and then rolled to be the correct size for the napkin ring. Place the napkin rings on the right side of a turkey inspired place mat or in the center of the dinner plate.
Decorative turkey napkin holders will complement any Thanksgiving table. As well, it is a fun activity to involve children in the holiday preparations.
