Kids will love these sugar cookies. They paint the frosting on with paint brushes.

Besides the cookie dough ingredients, you will need:

  • new fine tipped paint brushes
  • food colors
  • cookie cutters
  • sugar sprinkles or decors

Sugar Cookie Recipe

Sift together and set aside:

3 cups flour

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

Cream together:

1 cup unsalted butter

3/4 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture. Do not overmix. Turn onto a floured surface and knead just until smooth. Too much working will make the cookies hard.

Chill dough for about 30 minutes.

Roll out very thin ( 3/16 inch). Cut out the hearts or other shapes. (I like my butterfly and dragonfly cutters for these.)

Paint with egg white paint (recipe below) on the unbaked cut-out cookies and bake in 350 degree oven for about ten minutes.

Egg white paint recipe:

Beat up 1 egg white in each container and add small amount of food coloring to each white.

Sprinkle with decor sugars if desired.
